Webhosting: Dreamhost Bad Media Temple Good

November 16th, 2008   |  Print This Post

I’ve been moving some of my sites from one web host to another in order to organize my sites and simply my life. Initially, the plan was to move many sites to Dreamhost. This was a mistake. It took me over 3 weeks to get one site up and running and over 4 weeks were spent trying to get this blog up -and in the end -it never happened. After only 15 minutes with Media Temple -I had this blog up and running perfectly. Between database servers being down and admin panel malfunctions -I spent far too much time troubleshooting blind -which wasted huge amounts of time! Dreamhosts’s technical support is a joke. You can read more about their bad service and ongoing problems here and here.

Now I am with Media Temple. I should have gone with them first. They have 24/7/365 technical support available by PHONE :-) . Not that I needed it. So far, so good. I did my research, but I was looking for cost savings, however -my time is worth something as well and after this experience of having hours and weeks wasted -I have come to the conclusion that Media Temple saves me money. Competent service has to be worth something. I know that no hosting provider can be perfect, but for now -I see a huge difference.

Yeah, I seem to recall (but not Total Recall) telling you that DreamHost sucks horse balls… Well, not exactly in those words. Media Temple is super awesome (I did research too. But it’s overkill too good for my stupid personal blog, so I’m sticking it out with my current webhost… which is just so-so. That last sentence seems like a run-on sentence. Huh.)
