When the last living thing
has died on account of us,
how poetical it would be
if Earth could say,
in a voice floating up
perhaps
from the floor
of the Grand Canyon,
“It is done.”
People did not like it here.
-Kurt Vonnegut
I enjoyed reading Breakfast of Champions when I was a young teenager and then read Galapagos . Both I found very funny, very sad and very insightful. I’ve always meant to read more by him. I likely will now that I am reminded of this interesting man –once again. This poem however may be the most apt and succinct piece I have read by this man. He left his mark and passed away on the 11th. And so it goes.
