Have you ever felt alone? Have you ever wondered if anyone else out there suffered some of the same personal pain you did? Well you’re not a lone. In November 2004 Frank Warren invited anyone and everyone to send him their secrets on a postcard. He printed up a bunch of blank postcards with simple instructions to be brief and clear and creative when sending a postcard to his address. He then left them lying around the local food court, shops, restaurants and even in the pages of books at the local library.

People started sending in their secrets on postcards. Warren’s initial idea was to submit these postcards in a Washington DC art exhibition and he did. Although the initial art exhibition is over he still receives 40-50 postcards a day and to date he has received 3000 post cards from anonymous authors.
The post cards are very creative and have common themes. You have to wonder if all of them are true to their impression, however I suppose it doesn’t really matter. I mean even if some of them are for the most part creative endeavours designed more for a creative impact –or social statement rather than a particularly personal unburdening; who cares.
It’s still pretty heavy social commentary.
The author of an Observer Article about Frank Warren’s postcard art project came to this conclusion: “the things that make us feel so abnormal are actually the things that make us the same”. I say these postcards reflect our creativity, curiosity and exhibitionism. And this is a GOOD thing. We generally have a lack of creative outlets in modern society. This is a perfect example of how therapeutic creativity can be.
