Made inspiration.

So often when i need inspiration i look to the internet to get me jump started. Its Mothers day and I have work to do on my computer before i go over to my Grandmothers place to celebrate. She turned 90 in February and she is such an important part of our family.Of course I got a bit side tracked with the creative meandering. I visited Make Magazine online. I hadn’t been in a while and found some really cool things to make.

Felting project kits from MAKE

Sushi Wallet Kit $18.00 & Coin Purse Cubed $21.00

I saw the felted wallets and change purses and thought these would make perfect little gifts for people. You can buy the kit and it comes with everything you need (except the needles). Unfortunately the shipping outside Canada makes the cost prohibitive in my opinion -so you can just take the idea and run with it if you think you can do it without the kit.

Techie project

MintyBoost USB Charger Kit (for cell phones and ipods) $19.99

Ok -so this isn’t fiber art, but i think it is crafty and it is cute and its brilliant. Take this little mint container and easily make a functional gadget that you can use over and over again -whats not to love? Again -if the shipping wasn’t so enormously expensive -I’d order this kit. I’ve always found electronics interesting, but have never witnessed the workings and intricacies of how they are “made”. As a kid; to my mothers dismay, i would often disassemble the little black and white TV in my bedroom and then put it back together. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn’t. When I learned how easy it was to attach the cable when my mom unattached it to prevent me from watching scary movies -I thought I was a genius. Anyway -what kids wouldn’t love this stuff? Personally I am partial to functional art. I think crafty people could easily decoupage, paint, stencil and otherwise embellish these little mint tins and also turn them into pretty cool gifts of Massive Coolness Factor.

PS -I found that you can also order the kit here: Pick up sticks online. Maybe the international shipping rates are better.

PPS If you want to try felting on your own without a kit read this.http://sticksknits.com/felting/index.php

In the end -its all about the MCF.

Those would be uber cutey-cute if they had kitty faces stitched on them… but not so super cute if wallets were stitched on kitty faces. Well, no… definitely not.

    Ooooh, iPod gadgetry. Drool. Oooh.

Why do I always get “blake” anti-spam word whenever I a write a comment? It’s a conspiracy, I tell ya.
