I’ve been having difficulties over the last 2 weeks with my Gmail account. Often I can’t login and when I can, I can’t open the mail in my inbox. I see the subject like of my messages, but can’t open them. This is starting to make me a bit nervous since I rely on it for so much. I decided to investigate -starting with their search engine and came up with many reports of similar problems from many users.
Then I found this article from the CBC website:
“A problem with Google Inc.’s free e-mail service that has users increasingly reporting that their data and accounts are being irretrievably deleted is an isolated one, the internet search giant says.”
I’m a bit nervous since I rely on Gmail for so much currently. If you can still get into Gmail -try this information from the Gmail support section to backup all you mail to another email client. I can login, but can’t read my mail -so this should help. If you want to back-up all your Gmail daily onto your hard drive -try backing up your Gmail with fetchmail.
I am sure they are working on this, but it is always a good idea to have a backup plan for your really important emails. This has made me thing of addressing that -sooner rather than later.
PS -these problems do seem to be worse if you are using the Firefox browser -which I do prefer. I had more luck later in the day using with IE 7. For now -I am still a bit nervous.
Hmmm I use gmail everyday..and I’ve never had a problem.
