Baby Blanket Progress and Pattern

March 21st, 2006   |  Print This Post

I am almost finished my first baby blanket! Actually this pattern would make a fantastic CAT BLANKET! Warm, cozey, easy to care for (acrylic), and it can be created very fast for gifts -I might try a dog blanket based on this pattern too for gifts. Maybe add a doggie or kitty motif some how. Hummmmm.

Anyway -here is a photo of the progress. It is the simplest pattern. I really enjoy simple. I really needed longer needles, but I’ve squished the project so far and I think I am ok.

This blanket is created from corner to corner –meaning –the stitches start at one corner and you knit wider (increase your stitches) until you reach the bias, then you decrease your stitches down to the opposite corner –and you are left with a square.

Basically all you have to do is:

  1. Cast on 5 stitches and knit across 1 row
  2. Start Pattern:

  3. Knit 3, move your yarn over (this creates a new stitch and the pattern), knit to end of row
  4. Keep doing this until you have 126 stitches or ball 1 of yarn runs out!
Mine ran out at about 85 stitches, but I think that will be fine since it is a very bulky yarn and will be larger because of that.
  5. Then you start decreasing your stitches:

  6. Knit 2, Knit 2 together, Yarn Over, Knit to the end –do this until there are 7 stitches on the needle.
  7. Knit 2, Knit 2 together, Knit 2 together again, Knit to end
  8. Bind off 5 remaining stiches!
